Headlight Restoration or Replacement?

A cloudy lens and a damaged headlight assembly are not the same problem. The first step is to identify what is wrong with the light, then decide whether exterior lens restoration is appropriate.

Start with the outside of the lens

BrightLight's headlight service is a preparation, sanding, polishing, and clear-coat process for the outer lens. Weathered or cloudy plastic is the type of concern to show us when requesting a restoration quote.

We use seven different sanding grits on each of the two headlights and finish with lens-preparation wipes and UV-protectant clear-coat wipes. That process is not a replacement for repairing electrical faults or broken housing components.

Surface cracks and cracks through the headlight

We are unable to remove cracks that go all the way through the headlight. In many cases, surface cracks may be addressed, but the depth and condition need an assessment.

Do not assume a photographed crack is superficial. Send close-ups, describe what you know about the damage, and ask us to check it before expecting the restoration to resolve it.

Problems to disclose before a quote

Mention moisture inside the light, broken parts, non-working bulbs or lighting faults, and previous restoration or coatings. Exterior sanding should not be expected to fix damage on the inside or a light that does not turn on.

This guide does not offer replacement assemblies or promise a mechanical diagnosis. If the issue is outside the lens-restoration scope, ask about the appropriate next step rather than authorizing surface work on that assumption.

  • Cloudiness on the outside versus haze inside the assembly.
  • Any crack, broken section, or visible moisture.
  • Whether the light functions.
  • Previous sanding, coatings, or known repairs.

Ask for an assessment before choosing the work

Text the vehicle make and model, photos of both headlights, and your town. Request a free quote and describe the problem in your own words. A specific assessment is more useful than a blanket promise that every lens can look new.

A typical headlight job averages about two hours, depending on condition and difficulty, and includes a 2-year warranty. We serve the listed towns in Ada and Canyon County and are open 10 a.m.–6 p.m. daily.

Good to know

Questions, answered.

Can you remove a crack that goes through the headlight?
No. Through-cracks cannot be removed by our restoration process. Surface cracks may be treatable in many cases after assessment.
Will restoration fix condensation inside the housing?
Exterior lens restoration should not be assumed to fix moisture inside the assembly. Disclose it before requesting a quote.
Do I need to decide on restoration before sending photos?
No. Send clear photos and explain the concern so suitability can be discussed before you commit to the work.
